The Premise
On
his 50th birthday, Maynard, a man living a boring suburban 9-5 existence, wakes
up to who he truly is: A Wizard imprisoned in the mortal realm. He sets off
on a quest to save the world, meeting many magical beings along the way. The
only problem is that he hasn’t regained his former power.
The Format
The
Wizard’s Dilemma will be released online (and probably on a seriously
awesome DVD), in 4 or 5 instalments (each about 15 minutes).
It’s being
filmed in Mission British Columbia. It’s being shot with Panasonic GS70
(3 ccd camera from a few years ago), on a virtually non-existent budget (haven’t
broken the $100 mark yet!)
The first episode
is scheduled for release at the end of July, with the subsequent episodes following
on a monthly basis.
Key Players
Mikael
Fyfe – Writer / Director / Producer
Renown
locally for his sell-out promotional video work, and scorned for his overt contempt
for gourmet cooking.
Mikael is 18, and
the product of a lifetime of home schooling; He is unemployable in even the
most demeaning jobs, and so does contract work as either a photographer, graphic
artist, or videographer. Little else is known.
James
Leckie – Co-Producer / The Wizard
Jim
is an accomplished stone sculptor, and has had his work displayed all over western
Canada.
In the early 80s,
he was single handedly built the SkyTrain system in Vancouver, and BC place
stadium*. Clearly he has fallen in the world, as he’s now starring in
this movie.
His task (aside
from reading lines and looking horrified by imaginary monsters) is to keep Mikael’s
bizarre writings under control, and within the realm of vague sanity. His success
at this is yet to be determined.
His stone work
is available at www.OutOfHarmsWayStudios.com
Margaret Fyfe
– Actress (Rose) / Costume designer / Makeup Artist
Margaret
(an accomplished artist in her own right) is Mikael’s mother, and as such
cannot easily escape involvement in this film.
As a former pro
wrestler, acting is nothing new to her. She is also a former pro wrestling costume
designer, a job differing from action/fantasy costume design only by the amount
of spandex used.
*Actual involvement may be less than boastfully
implied.
